About Dr. Elliot Gruen

Dr. Elliott Gruen draws on more than 20 years of experience to serve as a general psychiatrist at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Lewiston, Maine. In this capacity, he offers professional guidance to adolescents and adults struggling with issues such as substance abuse. Having served patients within Saint Mary’s inpatient department, Dr. Elliott Gruen currently provides outpatient care at one of the hospital’s off-campus clinics. He gained introductory experience in family psychiatric support as an aide for Portland’s Maine Medical Center, where he assisted in addressing behavioral issues exhibited by young children.

Dr. Gruen returned to Maine Medical Center to complete a clinical rotation while studying as a psychiatric resident at the University of Massachusetts. During this time, he completed an internship at Albany Medical Center, augmenting his training with evening positions at multiple Massachusetts hospitals. Prior to his residency, he completed clinical psychiatric rotations as a student at the New England College of Osteopathic Medicine and pursued a preceptorship alongside an osteopathic family physician as a student at Pace University.

Throughout his career, Dr. Elliott Gruen has spent a great deal of his leisure time surrounded by nature. An avid fisherman, he enjoys traveling to both fresh-water and saltwater locations and is particularly fond of fly-fishing for northern pike at Yellowstone National Park.
